Contact Lens Prescription at Msight Vision Eyecare in Flushing, NY

Numerous contacts laying on a white table.

Contact lenses are a comfortable and natural solution for vision correction, offering a more convenient alternative to glasses. Contact lenses provide wider peripheral vision, with no frames to obstruct or fog up. However, obtaining proper contact lenses isn't as easy as purchasing them off the shelf; a specific prescription and a correct fit must be obtained from an eye care practitioner to ensure safety and comfort.

At Msight Vision Eyecare, we offer thorough contact lens exams and customized prescriptions to enable you to see clearly with lenses while maintaining healthy eyes.

Whether you're new to contacts or a long-time wearer, our staff is committed to helping you. We adapt the process to your lifestyle and needs, so you receive well-fitting lenses that work for you.

Contact Lens Exams & Fittings

A contact is a thorough evaluation of your eyes and vision needs. An optometrist will perform a comprehensive eye exam and take detailed measurements of your eyes to determine the optimal lens size, curvature, and material, as a correct fit is essential for both comfort and clear vision. In fact, your glasses prescription isn't directly usable for contacts. Contact lenses sit on the cornea of your eye. In contrast, glasses sit a short distance away, so the power and fit need to be adjusted accordingly.

Once you've decided on a lens type, we typically provide a trial pair of contacts for you to wear for a short period. This lets us and you evaluate the comfort and clarity. After about a week, we'll schedule a follow-up visit to check how your eyes are adjusting. If everything feels and looks good, we'll finalize your contact lens prescription.

Specific needs are also taken into account during your fitting. For instance, if you have allergic or dry eyes, we will take that into consideration while choosing your lenses. Some materials used in lens design, or wearing daily disposable contact lenses, may help reduce dryness and irritation for sensitive eyes. Our custom fitting system allows you to experiment with different options until we find the best match for your vision and comfort needs. Skipping a proper fit or putting on contacts that are not right for your eyes can cause discomfort or even eye health issues, so we take the time to get it right.

Contact Lens Options:

We fit a wide range of contact lens options to suit different prescriptions and purposes, including:

  • Spherical lenses: Standard soft contacts for nearsighted or farsighted vision correction.
  • Toric lenses for astigmatism: Contacts tailored to correct astigmatic vision.
  • Multifocal (monovision) lenses: For patients who need both distance and near vision correction in their contacts.
  • Colored cosmetic lenses: Contacts that can change your eye color (available with or without a prescription).

Advanced Technology & Eye Health

At Msight Vision Eyecare, we use advanced diagnostic technology to support contact lens services. Every contact lens exam includes a comprehensive check of your overall eye health.

These tools help us detect early signs of eye disease and general health issues, such as diabetes or hypertension, by examining your eyes. Catching potential problems early ensures it's safe for you to wear contact lenses and allows us to address any issues proactively.

Our practice focuses on preventive eye care, using early detection to protect your vision. We believe that caring for your eyes is an integral part of maintaining your overall health. After all, overall good health leads to healthy eyes.
